The free dictionary defines wisdom as:
1.”The ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting; insight. 2. Common sense; good judgment: “It is a characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things” (Henry David Thoreau). 3a. The sum of learning through the ages; knowledge: “In those homely sayings was couched the collective wisdom of generations” (Maya Angelou). b. Wise teachings of the ancient sages. 4. A wise outlook, plan, or course of action.
Wisdom is from above. When I speak of “from above”, it is that which emanates from the Father of Lights- for Light itself is significant of illumination. Therefore it is pertinent that we take a wise outlook and plan our discourse , taking our course of action from that which is given from above, from God, and illuminate all dark passages within us. Without further ado, we trace our steps to the word of God, written for all time, in the Bible. It is written:
“Wisdom is supreme – so acquire wisdom, and whatever you acquire, acquire understanding” (Proverbs 4:7)
How wonderful these words are; for we are urged to acquire wisdom, and not only that; but also to acquire understanding. Wisdom and understanding is yet incomplete without Knowledge. For it is from gaining Knowledge that understanding is begotten and the culmination of which is wisdom. Yet the writer of the Proverbs, King Solomon, says “acquire wisdom” and as if more importantly, “acquire understanding”. What does this mean? Could i be wise if i have not first acquired knowledge?
Steady your mind dear reader, as always, we look at things through God’s eyes, by becoming one with God’s Holy Spirit. From this point onwards we will delve deeper into the meaning of the proverb above; relatively correlating these with the emanations of God as revealed yet concealed in Scriptures and given to the Jewish Sages of ancient times.
Firstly, Solomon in all his wisdom, given from God, said : “Wisdom is supreme”; and it is so. For wisdom is the highest attainable status that a soul can receive of God in the earth realm. The Wisdom of God, given from above is the blessing that makes rich the one who possesses it. Therefore scriptures say:
“Those who are wise store up knowledge,…(Proverbs 10:14)
Wisdom, is given to all, as much as the soul desires to have. God has made this so, in His divine grace and this constitutes, alongside the Divine grace, the Right hand of God. When God releases His grace to all creation, wisdom is given, entwined in His loving kindness(Grace). The Apostle James, a close confidant of Jesus reiterated this by saying:
“But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him” ( James 1:5)
Now, it is noteworthy to assert that King Solomon, the wisest man ever, received these words by inspiration from God’s Holy Spirit, just as God released it from above. That is from top to bottom. From the supernal realm to the earthly realm. The domain of men.Your domain, my domain. We therefore, access this grace from bottom to the top.
Affirmatively putting these together, from the scriptures quoted above: we in the earth realm, first attain the Knowledge of God, then understanding and the culmination of these being wisdom. This is why it was stated: ” Wisdom is Supreme”.
The entire work of the Holy Spirit in the soul of believers and seekers of God is to establish the Wisdom of I AM (YHWH,ELOHIM). This ultimate plan is perfected in the Son (Jesus Christ); whom is the visible image of the Invincible God, and the embodiment of the Wisdom of God. All Wisdom of God is revealed in Jesus for He is God, ELOHIM.
Understanding is the womb that births newness in spiritual measurements and thus determines the depth of Wisdom perceived by the seeker. The deeper the soul is taken in Godly measurements, as it acquires the Knowledge of God, the deeper the understanding given and of course, the wiser the being becomes.
These pursuits in the Knowledge, understanding and Wisdom of the I AM is key to the manifestations of the “Sons of God” for the souls of Believers are called into the mysteries of God revealed in the Christ, Messaiah (Yeshua Ha’Mashiac), Jesus Christ- the same yesterday today and forevermore (Hebrew 13:8). Of these things Apostle Paul wrote:
“You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, …”(Romans 8:9)
The pursuit of wisdom is one without end. There are many paths knowledge will lead the soul to learn the deep things of God. I can only wonder how unguided the soul outside Christ can be, when he seeks wisdom of things that will perish in the summation of all things in Judgment. No wonder many an atheist or non-believer utter miserable words that deny the existence to the path that leads to peace and fulfilment in God’s purpose-Jesus Christ. But in God’s providence the soul in Christ is given a far greater advantage:
“For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will thwart the cleverness of the intelligent”…
“For since in the wisdom of God the world by its wisdom did not know God, God was pleased to save those who believe by the foolishness of preaching(1 Corinthians 1:19,21)
The “foolishness of preaching”, here implies the unguided wisdom of the intelligent professors and “free thinkers” and the carnal mind oblivious of God, whose knowledge has puffed them up,so as to reason in error of the non existence of God and the seriousness of spiritual matters, so that they consider that which can save them from damnation as “foolishness”.
This is a vast discourse, and i am just paraphrasing and summarizing, for this matter is worthy of a book in its own accord; but nonetheless, i will quote once more from the scriptures, expand upon it and then we wrap this up. It is written:
“Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them. There is no end to the making of many books, and much study is exhausting to the body. 13 Having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion: Fear God and keep his commandments, because this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God will evaluate every deed, including every secret thing, whether good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:12-14)
This is the conclusion of the matter, for to seek wisdom unguided, without God’s Spirit taking the lead, your pursuit is futile. And you will perish a unfulfilled man.
“Fear God and keep his commandments, because this is the whole duty of man”…
Interestingly, the fear of God is the beginning of Wisdom and Wisdom is embodied in the Christ- Jesus and so is the commandments of God fulfilled in Him.
Wouldn’t you rather join in the pursuit of Wisdom? For it is Jesus Christ that we seek and long to conform to His image in Holiness and Righteousness.
